IC Info

Name: Jemma Simmons
Canon: Agents of SHIELD/MCU
Age: 33.
Appearance: Pretty, but not annoyingly so.
Canon Point: Post season five, plus her previous Penance time.
Background: Jemma Simmons @ Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki.

In Penance, she was happy to reunite with Fitz at the hotel (and at the Club, previous to that) and quickly became dedicated to ultimately finding the way out though there was little progress. Constantly beset by attacks, setbacks, and distractions of all kinds, the mystery of Penance and who brought them there and why is deeper than ever -- but it's not all pitchforks and accordions. Jemma has friends that range from fellow humans of many talents to powered individuals, and built relationships with each of them. Sometimes these were imposed by circumstances, such as her "sons" or people she got stuck in torture machines with, and sometimes they were sought. Jemma and Fitz did marry in Hell in June of 2020, real time, and maintained a lab together. One of their major projects was collecting genetic information and tracking physical changes of the hotel residents. No conclusions had been drawn, but it's been turning over in her head, as it was the November night she closed her eyes to sleep... and now she wakes in a room that is not hers, and it is February.

Personality: All appearances would firmly slot Jemma into a category that could be titled "Nerdy But Pretty" -- and it's not wrong, but of course, doesn't show the whole story. As a science prodigy who had two PhDs to her name by the age of seventeen, Jemma has always been mature and driven: driven by the pursuit of knowledge, the need for answers, and her desire to make the next discovery or innovation, and find the things that no one else has found.

In general, Jemma is a logical person. When she hears hooves she thinks horses, not zebras, and in true scientific fashion pays more attention to what tangible evidence and data tells her than her gut instinct, not always to the benefit of the situation and herself, or to the point of tamping down her emotions to del with later. Though she has seen many strange things in her time as a SHIELD agent, she is always looking for the logical explanation and is dismissive whenever someone utters the word "magic" -- Jemma subscribes to the idea that anything that could be termed magic does have a scientific explanation, though it may not always be immediately obvious as to what that explanation might be. And make no mistake, she is always eager to find that explanation. She likes to test and explore and push scientific boundaries. She is still the girl with a million questions looking for the answers.

Though she might be considered hyperlogical, this has not made her unemotional. She cares about people, especially those she is close to, and she connects to people with ease and can form those bonds easily. She derives satisfaction from taking care of her people and feels responsible for their well-being; when they are unwell or in trouble, she wants to help where she can. And though she's a warm person, she's also very restrained. She doesn't like to be upset and especially cry in front of people, and in the face of stress she will present a calm facade even if she is experiencing panic and fright on the inside. She works to handle the things that are in front of her in the moment, and would rather let herself fall apart later. Since childhood she has taken her anxiety and worries and pushed it aside. This leads to an awareness at all times of how she presents herself to the people around her.

Though she loved the lab, she also loved being a field agent; it appealed to the adventurous streak in her as well as the desire to be on the brink of discovery -- and as long as she had Fitz with her, she was convinced she could take on anything. She's been tested and forced to reevaluate her priorities. Once a self-described good girl who liked following the rules and a noted terrible liar, she's learned to work around her shortcomings. She doesn't like to compromise her values and tries not to, but betray her and more to the point harm her friends then all bets are off. Sometimes she looks back and doesn't know how she made it from there to here, but the answer is of course the same as everything else: one bit at a time.

While she may not be the stereotypical action girl, she is brave and selfless who defends what she loves and stands up for what is right. Though she is intelligent and knowledgable on a wide range of scientific topics, she sometimes puts emotions aside and like most thirty-somethings, genius or not, is working to find the balance between the two.

Weaknesses/Temptations: Jemma's number one weakness the people she loves and feels loyalty to, and none of those is higher on the list than Fitz. Full stop, match over, if you want to make Jemma falter or stop, put Fitz in danger or use him for distraction. You also run the risk of pissing her off when you do this, and while she is normally kind, she has few compunctions anymore when it comes to those who have hurt the people she loves. She has a high regard for knowledge, it being its own reward, and might throw aside ethical considerations to find truth -- whatever that might be.

Sins:
In no particular order:
1. Left Fitz to spy undercover at Hydra and lied about it.
2. Trying to kill Ward, killing Sunil Bakshi instead, and being disappointed it failed.
3. Killing Alistair Fitz in the Framework
4. Sex outside of wedlock.
5. Co-habitating with a man outside of wedlock.
6. Lustful.
7. Abandoning hope on Maveth.
8. Lying to mum and dad.
9. Not swimming fast enough to save Fitz from brain damage.
10. Unleased Andrew Garner (Lash) on Hydra personnel leading them to be massacred.
11. Other murder adjacent acts. (She killed a Life Model Decoy of Fitz, and it definitely haunts her. Has probably also contributed to multiple deaths of anonymous people.)
12. Lying in general.
13. Allowing a surgery to proceed despite there being a mental breakdown in process.

Powers/Abilities: Unlike the variety of individuals she has come across in her time at SHIELD, Jemma doesn't have anything that might be considered a superpower -- although her intelligence is far above average, and you better believe she knows it. She's smart and works fast, and it is by far her best and most useful quality. She will defeat you with the power of SCIENCE!

Items: Characters will be allowed up to six personal items in game, not including whatever clothes they're wearing. All items must be able to fit in a duffel bag. The only thing they won't be allowed are pets from home.
1. A man's wedding ring (Fitz's) on a chain.
2. An ICER.
3. A copy of The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
4. A child's music box.
